Durham, NH, December 1, 2015 — The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), an independent provider of broad-based testing and standards conformance services for the networking industry, has announced they will be moving to their new downtown Durham location at Madbury Commons in early January 2016. Their new location will now be walking distance to campus resources, classrooms and local businesses.
The new UNH-IOL building is located just off campus, where the UNH-IOL continues to employ over 100 undergraduate students each year. For the students, the move will mean easier access to the lab’s facility which provides an invaluable experience of testing services and developmental research with companies of all size including Fortune 500 such as Apple, Cisco, Microsoft and many others. By cutting down the student’s commute, they will now have additional time to assist with testing services, development and research for our members; allowing the lab to demonstrate one of their values in financial sustainability.
"One of the exciting factors, to me, about the move is how integrated the new location will be into the UNH campus. It will be easy to come and go from the lab,” said Connor D’Amour, a junior majoring in Computer Science. “The exposure is going to be great, too. I talk to so many people who have no idea that the IOL exists, let alone what we do. We do some pretty cool stuff here, and being able to show that off at our new location is going to turn a lot more heads.”
The UNH-IOL will be moving to 21 Madbury Road and sharing the space with UNHInnovation offices. The lab occupies a majority of the first floor and includes over 27,000 usable sq. ft. The new space will include an event space to host Plugfests, conference rooms for visitors as well as training space to better fit the lab and student’s needs. The laboratory hosts hundreds of industry professionals & students from around the world each year. Visitors will now be exposed to downtown business as well as the UNH campus all year round.
“We are looking forward to moving into a brand new facility that enables integration between our partner companies, innovators and students. Bridging between academia and industry, this new location primes the UNH-IOL for success in meeting our mission while showcasing the vibrant town,” said Erica Johnson, UNH-IOL Director.
The move will begin in December and the UNH-IOL team will be up and running after the New Year - please be sure to update your records with our address and visit us online for any upcoming news and events.
